Our ‘High Hopes’ has burst into full bloom! As I write this, my office is heavy with the scent of ligustrum, bringing memories of childhood and answered prayers. Everything, by my calculation is a month early for our USA 8b zone on the Gulf Coast. My dear husband says that maybe this is not early but normal, since our first two full years here were extra cold and dry. My sincere thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for continuing to host Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, and everyone who participates and inspires.
It’s so clear that you have to cherish everyone. I think that’s what I get from these older black women, that every soul is to be cherished, that every flower Is to bloom. ~ Alice Walker
- Ligustrum is for me what the rainbow was for Noah.
- Moved from North Carolina to Oklahoma and now to Alabama, my grandmother’s old garden rose became three. It flourishes, like myself.
- Verbena, ‘Homestead’
- Byzantine gladiolus. They pop up in surprising places. Had three orange variety, too.
- Sorry, have forgotten the name, but it smells lovely and produces all summer.
- Crinum lily already! I think this is the ‘Milk and Wine’ crinum. Always blooms first.
