Asking How, in words on Wordless Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday

Photography taught me that to be able to capture transience, by being ready to click the shutter at the crucial moment, was the greatest need I have…And I felt the need to hold transient life in words–there’s so much more of life that only words can convey–strongly enough to last me as long as I lived. ~Eudora Welty

This morning I asked God how I could get going again on my writing projects…on my own life. Well, actually first I grumbled, as I had been for days, but this morning I finally remembered that grumbling never got me anywhere but more deeply stuck. The answer for any stuck situation is one word: How?

A simple answer, not one I would have expected: Clean your desk. You’ve forgotten the ritual of cleaning your desk. It is not one to be done once, then ignored. You will return to this ritual again and again.

My desk has been scaring me for days, no, actually for weeks. Cleaning it will bring forth courage, and the beauty of orderliness. Cleaning it will clean out all the internal baggage of yesterday and propel me forward into the creative energy of today. Cleaning my desk is probably one of my greatest creative tools.

Starting Wednesday out right…
Dear God, thank you for wisdom. All I need do is ask how and listen. You will answer. Amen. So it is.

Grace and peace,
