So I was looking for something on the internet, and we know what a sucking black hole that can be. Just at the ‘all is lost moment’, as we novelists term it, I stretched and grabbed hold of the couch leg and pulled myself back out, bringing with me these gems:
“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”
— Agnes Mae Pharo, pioneering music teacher and composer.
The only thing I can add to Ms. Pharo’s wisdom is that we receive these priceless gifts of tenderness, courage, and hope thanks to the King of Life, Who left heaven and came down to earth in a human body to save us from ourselves and show us the way back to heaven. Since that one event, the birth of a baby in a stable–and it was not dirty; animals were (are) valuable, meant life or death to people in the ancient world, and would be well cared for and kept clean, and hay smells divine–the trajectory of the entire human race was changed.
The birth of Jesus has been marked since that time, roughly two-thousand and twenty-three years. Marking the day has not stopped, even during wars.
People so want to be cheered and forgiving and loving at Christmas. We all, believers and non-believers alike, cannot stop delighting in it. Okay, so there are among us some misguided and lost souls, such as those who put up a satan display, but let’s not count nutcases. Regular, ordinary people all know and revere Christmas. Since the celebrating began, it hasn’t stopped. That is a miracle.
I leave you with this beautiful reminder. God bless the creative minds and hearts that create such videos.
Faith and I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

I could not get in the holiday mood. There was not a good reason for it. Money was fluid for gifts and our trip to family this year.
Then, I watched a church tv special sing familiar carols. I was reminded of the reason for the season. Jesus’ birth. How powerful-
that realization made December special to me.

It is hard each year since my husband’s passing, but somehow joy finds its way through the sadness. Each year I come to more understanding of what Christmas means. God bless you, Carol.
