Making My Own Journal With Quotes

I have not been able to find a journal with quotes scattered on the pages. The ones with the lovely flourish accents, the pretty typography. I used to come by them fairly easily. Maybe it’s the downturn in the economy. Likely a book with fancy-type quotes–meaning it is more a printed book– are far more expensive to produce than a simple book with lined pages.

Certainly it may be my economy, because my budget does keep me from looking in high-end places. Last year my husband bought me a beautiful Paperblanks journal for Christmas. Well, I showed it to him before Christmas, took him by the hand and dragged him to the display and said, “I want this for Christmas,” in the tone that meant ‘you’d better’. The price made his eyes open wide, but bless his heart, he got it for me. Still, the emphasis was on elaborate cover and binding and a secret pocket in the back–but no quotes.

So, the other day the great idea came to me to make my own journal with quotes. I have a method: no looking for quotes the day before. I must pick one at the moment that I go to journal. I might collect a few, but can’t pick until I’m going to write. More times than not, a quote appears in the moments before I open my journal. Perhaps it has to do with the principle of finding what I look for.

It’s rather like an adventure to see what new bit of wisdom or delight comes my way. And I figure that by the end of a year, I’ll have a nice group of quotes to maybe make a journal for a friend.

Here’s my quote for today. You may borrow it to start your own quote journal:

Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities…When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present–love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure–the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth. ~Sarah Ban Breathnach
