Where did the year go? Are you thinking that? Are you one of the organized types, who has all your Christmas gifts bought, even perhaps wrapped and neatly stuck in a closet? Or are you like me, with a few presents in shopping bags hidden, well, somewhere, you’re sure you can find them if you look a few places, and you hope to find something for your loved ones–and if the ones to your brother or sister are late, well, so be it?
This year I’m so very pleased to have awakened this day after Thanksgiving, been thoroughly thankful to have no more cooking to do (and that my mother got the dishes finished), and actually excited to plan Christmas decorating. Then I received an email telling me that the Southern Lit Lovers reading group on Goodreads had chosen my Christmas book, Miracle on I-40, for their December read. I’m tickled as I can be!

I have been busy with Nano, so I haven’t started my shopping yet. Just finished today, so now I can clean the house, trim the tree, and READ! Loved this book, just as I love all your books and Southern lit in general. Working on one myself called Sissy and Miss Boo that my critique group loves. I aspire to be you, CurtissAnn, when I grow up. (lol–I’m 74 and if I haven’t grown up by now I guess I never will)

Loving the chance to relive my roots, growing up in the south was and it the best way to live life. Would love to recieve a copy of this book, Will be reading it this Christmas, every one I have talked to always mentions what a wonderful read this it.

Dear Curtis Ann,
I became a lover of Southern literature, when as a young woman living near Cross Creek, Florida I came across the works of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Admittedly, she was a transplant to the South, and from all accounts she did not appreciate being designated a ‘regional’ author; nonetheless, she accurately and beautifully portrayed rural southern life: no excuses, justifications, nor condemnation, with a pure, raw acceptance, I believe she came to feel for the locals that inspired her work. Since then, I’ve read many Southern authors, some considered wonderful, some unremarkable, but until I found your books, I hadn’t found that same quality of ‘acceptance’ that I saw in Miss Marjorie’s books.
I love your writing, you present your characters with all of their foibles, idiosyncrasies and failings; they are so real, so ‘knowable’! Thank you, for bringing your special brand of Southern Literature into our lives!

I would just like to say that Miracle on I 40 has been one of my favorites! Of course I have enjoyed every CurtissAnn book, but I could not put this one down. When I realized that I could not wash dishes one handed, I had a decision to make, and it was that the dishes could wait while I finished the book! I think that the title was what drew me in. I love anything that says Miracle. This s a great idea for me to read this book during this Christmas season, the season for miracles.

Joyce– I came across a great quote the other day, one that made me think of how my attitude is a miracle: “To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, to have a home…friends– it’s all a miracle. I have adopted the technique of living life from miracle to miracle.” ~Arthur Rubenstein. I think adopting this technique can produce the miracle of joy.
