If one sets aside time for a business engagement, a trip to the hairdresser, a social engagement, or a shopping trip, that time is accepted as inviolable. But if one says, “I cannot come because that is my time to be alone”, one is considered rude, egotistical or strange. What a commentary on our civilization, when being alone is considered suspect; when one has to apologize for it, make excuses, hide the fact that one practices it – like a secret vice. ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
“Whatcha’ doin’, Nana?” asks four-year-old Sweetie-Pie.
“I’m having my tea, honey.”
“Oh. Do you wanna play Candyland with me?”
“I would love to, sweetie, but after I finish my tea and reading time.”
“Oh.”
“Here, why don’t you read the iPad and have quiet time, too.”
“Uhmmm, okay.” A little boy who goes ninety miles an hour sits and becomes absorbed in Old MacDonald app.
I want my grandchildren to learn to take time to relax, refresh, dream on purpose, refill the well. Teach them in the way they should go. And remind myself, too.
What a wonderful reminder to us all, to slow down. We don’t always have to be juggling three and four balls at one time. CurtissAnn, thank you for your inspiring words!

Amen to that! I think that “me time” is better than any therapy or medication available; it keeps us focused and recharges us so we can deal with the chaos that is life.
I am up early each morning in time to wake the chickens and nudge the sun into motion. My routine is… turn the coffee pot on, take out the dog, pick up the newspaper, then about an hour of absolute quiet while I sip the wonderful hot elixer of life and contemplate the day ahead.
Have a blessed day!

Oh, darling, Nola, from now on when I’m up, I’ll be able to think of you over there in Texas as if we’re together in our precious peace and quiet. I, too, have a similar habit, just this morning was up so early–before good light! Don’t you love that the sun is rising later? 🙂 Get my tea, write in my journal, spend time with me and God and my thoughts. It gets one through the rest of the day.
Been thinking of you and my little amaryllis soon to rise. We’re getting rain now! Whoot! xxxooo CA
